Spirit of Competition
The purpose of a dance competition is not to compare and contrast between the dance participants. It's not an avenue to separate the superior dancers from the average or low dancers or to see who wins the trophy. Competitions push dancers to reach the top of their potentials. It is aimed at giving dancers higher level experience and with each experience learn to become a better dancer. So therefore, competitions are not necessarily a contest.
Although the highest scoring dancers are ranked according to their overall scores, the emphasy is that dancers are competing against themselves and not an opponent and thus, competitive dance is not so much about competing but rather it's an opportunity to receive valuable critiques from seasoned dance professionals. Its also an avenue to watch and learn from other dancers.
As a dancer, your major task in a danc competition is to compete with yourself and improve yourself. Its not about winning and if perchance you think it's about winning, then win your flaws and imperfection and you've won.
This is according to M9 Dance Academy Competition Principles.
