Nigeria Ballet Revolution

Ballet dance in Nigeria is of high interest to most kids in urban settlements. They often watch some ballet dance movements in cartoon firms and that's where the affection for ballet dance starts from. They carry this affection in their tender hearts for long, craving to dance ballet.

Unfortunately, this affection usually hit a huge rock and gets shattered. The reason for this is because there are but very few ballet dance training schools in Nigeria. In total, the number of ballet dance schools are not more than twenty ( reliable ).

Meanwhile the number of kids ready to dance ballet ranks in thousands. This is a great mismatch. Because of the religious reasons, the art of dancing ballet cannot really strive in the northern states. Even though Lagos State is not in the top ten biggest states in the country, it's a home to most of the ballet dance schools. Yea, Lagos State is the center of entertainment in Nigeria. Then we have the rest schools scantly scattered across Benin, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa and a few more.

Revolution usually comes as a result of a strong change initiated by futuristic people and accepted by some or most. Day by day, the existing ballet dance schools are extending their scope. Like in M9 Ballet School, and as it is in some other schools, the population of students are more than the available space. That's to say there's high interest in ballet dance. It's a good sign for the future. Some years ago, it wasn't so. So, I can say it's a good sign for a ballet dance revolution in Nigeria. Believe it or not, the revolution has already started. But let's look at the four major factors affecting the growth of ballet in Nigeria.

Factors Affecting Ballet Dance Growth In Nigeria.

1. Facilities: — Most of the schools lack the facilities necessary for ballet dance training like adequate rehearsal studio, props, books, shoes and  costumes.

2. Trainers: — It's hard to find a qualified or a very creative ballet dance coach. Some don't even know ballet dance terminologies.

3. Support: —  These dance schools struggle on their own almost all the time. But some with big connections usually don't complain about this. But it's there, hitting majority of the schools.

4. No ballet dance organization:— The absence of a nation wide ballet dance organization is a big problem for the development of ballet dance in the country. All the ballet dance schools are sailing alone. No unity. No joint vision. Big problem.

If this four issues can be looked into and a positive solution implemented, Nigeria will soon be recognized as the center of ballet dance in Africa.

For all lovers of ballet dance, it's important you see beyond this dry phase and act towards the revolution that will make Nigeria glow in the dance world.
