DANCE COMPETITION ADJUDICATION BREAKDOWN
Dance Competitions are mostly determined by scores and the following adjudication breakdown will inform you what to aim for.
Each routine is a valuated according to the performance and skill criteria for the highest possible total score of 100 points.
PERFORMANCE
1. Creativity - 10 points
Thinking outside the box really pays off here. Show moves people don't see in every other routine. Swift up surprise moves and maybe make the judges laugh. Most importantly, have fun with your dance.
2. Formations and Levels - 10 points
Judges will be looking for good use of the stage and smooth formation changes. High, mid and low levels to compliment moves and give the routine some versatility. Soloists will only be judged on levels.
3. Conference - 10 points
Dancers are expected to be consistently strong throughout with an uninterrupted display of confidence which is usually measured by facial expressions, eye contact and body movement.
4. Costume and Music - points
Costumes should be relevant to the dance. Music cuts should be clean and professional. No vulgarity will be tolerated.
5. Message / Entertainment Value - points
The dancers should connect with the audience through their message and evoke emotional responses like excitement, laughter, sadness and so on.
SKILL
6. Musicality -10 points
The movement within the routine music demonstrate musical structure and style ( i.e. using rhythmic variations emphasizing upbeat, downbeat, tempo and accents in single, double, halftime am syncopated music patterns ) staying in time with the music, moving to the beat and us I identifiable phrases to construct the routine's choreography.
7. Cleanliness -10 points
All dancers move together. Routine should look clean and well practiced. Dancers should should commitment to moves without hesitation.
8. Spacing - 10 points
Groups will be judged on spacing between dancers, getting into new formations on time and using the stage. Soloists and smaller numbers will be judged on stage usage.
9. Difficulty - 10 points
Take risk. Dance risky. Consideration is given to dancers who attempt and successfully complete complex choreography.
10. Commitment to Style - 10 points
The dancers should show authenticity the dance style they're doing throughout the dance ( except there's an open category ).
