Risk Dancing
Risk dancing is to a larger extent the distinguishing factor between normal dancers and extraordinary dancers
In which ever way you look at it, risk dancers are the best acts in terms of potential and performance. The higher the risk in the dance, the better.
At M9 dance school, risk is part of our dance philosophy.
We instill it in our students. What's the point dancing if you can't freeze the spectators and judges.
Oftentimes, audiences pray for the safety of our dancers when on stage. I love that. But we have faith in God that no accident or unfortunate mistake will place.
To be exceptionally outstanding, involve risky step combinations in your routine.

Teaching kids how to dance pt1
Kids love dance and dancing is a good way for kids and adults alike to express not only their happiness but also their passion.
However, teaching kids how to dance is a major challenge which dance studios are facing worldwide. As you know, many solutions have been suggested on how to teach kids dance. Although some are not effective as others. And in many cases, certain methods don't work effectively in some places or parts of the world due to some reasons like culture, constitution, civilization, facilities, technology and so on. On this note, it's frustrating when adapting a European method of teaching kids dance on African soil. So many things will go wrong. This is applicable in other cases.
So I strongly suggest that teaching kids dance should be done with high understanding of so many factors. Otherwise effectiveness may be lost. That's why I don't use the exact French terminologies when teaching my African kids ballet. I simplify everything in a language that they can easily accept and relate with. And someone asked me what if my students meet foreign students? I simply said they will be doing the same routine \steps or similar combinations but with different language but meaning the same thing. That is what I call originality.
At this point, one way of teaching kids dance is to have the virtue of patience. Another way is to have more patience and lastly, have infinite patience.
Follow this blog for more reality dance development information.
Thanks.

Dance Academy Nigeria
Behind every good professional dancer is a good professional
trainer and choreographer. These two, Mr and Mrs Eva Silver are the owners of M9 Dance Academy. Together they lead the Academy in all major aspects. Though Mrs Silver was a student of M9 Dance Academy some years ago and was actually taught by Mr Eva( not yet married then),today she has developed to become the lead choreographer for M9 Dance Academy.
These young couple are constantly on the path of causing a dance revolution in Nigeria. In Nigeria, people don't believe so much in someone making a reasonable difference with dance. But these two have successfully quenched all gossips and look down. They have taken dance to the rich, middle class and bottom line.
M9 Dance Academy is what it is because of what these two are. Nigeria has many good professional dance artists but lack dance icons that can produce and reproduce the future generation of great professional dancers. "The dream is not about now,not about us,it's about tomorrow, it's about others"
We take great delight in building top class dancers for our nation. That's what national development means to us@M9 dance school.

Nigeria- M9 Dance Academy
Ballet
Ballet training, especially the balance techniques and postures of ballet dance sets a solid foundation for the general development of dance. So we begin with the ballet ideology in teaching our students to become exceptional performers.
Contemporary dance
Yes,we teach contemporary but with high creativity. We often go out of the normal modern day contemporary and create what becomes future contemporary dance.
Lyrical
In doing lyrical, we teach our students to dance from the deepest part of their hearts, and bring out all the most wanted emotions.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics is a major dance style in M9 dance school. And we are the example in Nigeria.
Gymnastics
What is acrobatics without gymnastics, so we ride in gymnastics and give our students the wonderful fulfillment that comes with the flips and twists and so on.
That's what we specialize on.
If you're fortunate to be in Nigeria, please kindly contact us. Forget the distance, we can travel to train you wherever you may be. That's our specialty, going to!

dance+acrobatics
Acrobatics is a very serious aspect of dance that only few talented, and in most cases, extra determined people perform.
Don't be deceived, it takes a lot to be an acrobatics dancer. But it's fun and simple if you're very flexible, coupled with general body balance.
These days, acrobatics is seen in almost all dance forms. It's more profitable to learn some acrobatics tricks and add to your dance if you're not a talented acrobatics dancer.
No rushing. Step by step, you'll learn a lot. At M9 dance school, we strongly develop the acrobatics talents in our studios and teach prospective acrobatics lovers how master some tricks.
Note: Don't bend or twist beyond your flexibility level, except you're under the supervision of a great acrobatics teacher.

Talent and Hardwork
Talent is a very vital tool in becoming great in whatsoever field. The world celebrate talent and love talented people. These days, most young people even believe more in their talents than in formal education. Dance is one of the most vast talent arena. This is evident in the fact that everyone can dance in different capacity. As dancers, professional dancers, it's wonderful to see the importance of your dance talent on stage. But to be successful in this global talent industry, talent is never enough. In fact, talent can disappoint in certain critical times. To be successful as a dancer, you need just ten percent and ninety percent hard work. Talent without hard work can only lead to talent decadence.
Yes, hard work is what brings the power of talent to the spotlight of success.
Don't rejoice when people tell you how talented you are. Instead, rejoice when one person tell you to rehearse beyond your rehearsal schedule. Sometimes, dancers with less potential often out danced dancers with high potential. If you can rehearse when others are resting, say for three months,
you will shock yourself and others at what speed and balance you will be dancing with.
Talent is good but without hard work, talent is wasteful.

M9 ballet @Believe in your dream
BELIEVE IN YOUR DREAM
SOME YEARS AGO WHEN I DECIDED TO START A DANCE CAREER, ALMOST EVERYONE AROUND SPOKE COLD WORDS OF DISCOURAGEMENT. THEY SAID I CAN'T MAKE SOMETHING MEANING OUT OF DANCING. SOME PEOPLE TOOK IT VERY PERSONAL AND BECAME VERY ANGRY WITH ME. ONE PERSON EVEN CHALLENGED ME AND SAID I WON'T BE ABLE TO BUY A PAIR OF SHOE WITH DANCING in Nigeria.
BUT LET ME READ THE PRESENT RESULT TO YOU.
1.Got married through dancing
2. Living in a house that can house ten extra people
3.Trained some thousands of young dancers
4. Have FOUR dance training jobs at different locations
5. Raised the most outstanding team of young dancers in Nigeria.6.
I can keep counting. But let me stop here.
Am not raising shouders. Just want you to know that people who try to talk you out of your dream can really be wrong in their calculations of what you would become or where you will reach. Let no one put a limit to anything positive that you want to do. Go all out and DREAM BIG.

M9 Spotlight Anthem
Anthems are very important elements in the history of countries in building beliefs, character and hope. It's also important for building unity and purpose. M9 Spotlight is a big fan of the importance of an anthem.
M9 Spotlight Anthem
We bring the light
Through Gospel dance
We exalt His holy name
As the Son who came for righteous reason
We are here for just the same
As we go for glory
Let the Lord reign
As they hear our story
Let Him take praise
Cause we are M9 SpotlightFor life
Light of the world
On earth
We will shine.
The M9 Spotlight anthem was composed in September 2013 by M9 Spotlight.

Overcoming Shyness in dance
Shyness is one thing a dancer don't need. Yet I discover that many dancers are constantly locked in shyness, especially kids and teenagers.
Shyness is an emotion that affects how a person feels and behaves around others. Shyness can mean feeling uncomfortable, self conscious, nervous, bashful, timid, or insecure. People / dancers who feel shy sometimes notice physical sensations like blushing or feeling speechless, shaky or breathless. This feeling, in whatever way it may appear, reduces the potential of the dancer.
Shyness is opposite of being at ease with yourself around others. When dancers feel shy, they might hesitate to try to move their body to dance or do some steps because they are unsure of themselves and are not ready to be noticed. But it's controversial because every dancer is suppose to want to be noticed. That's the main thing. NOTICE ME AND SEE WHAT I'VE GOT.
One thing I know is that dance is not for shy people. If you have a kid or you are involve with training kids how to dance, you really have to implement measures to overcome Shyness in the shy one ( ones ). Dance is not for shy people but dancing can help one overcome shyness.
To overcome shyness is not so hard. Just free your mind and dance like no one is seeing you. Be confident in yourself.

M9 Spotlight @5 Anniversary Speech
Welcome to M9 Spotlight 5th Anniversary.
Anniversaries are wonderful and celebratory occassions. This Anniversary is an opportunity for recollections of the years gone by and positive forecast for the years ahead. These past five years have been remarkable and successful. It has been defined by lots of happy moments and enduring memories. Of course there had been many difficult times. Yet despite the challenges along the way, we are still here, winning.
Five years ago in Bayelsa state, Nigeria, the spark of ballet dance had not existed in glamour. But today, through the mentorship of M9 Ballet School, M9 Spotlight has brought this into existence.
M9 Spotlight 5th year Anniversary is an occasion to celebrate, an opportunity to momentarily look back and a golden ticket to chart the path forward. Following the wave of this, there has been some improvement in the administration of M9 Spotlight.
So we look forward to another wonderful time to build and strengthen the vision.
Today, as we celebrate M9 Spotlight 5th year Anniversary, what matters most is where we are going, the dreams ahead, the visions to be accomplished and the support of wonderful people like you who believe in us.
Thanks very much.
Mr and Mrs M9.

Step of the day
This awesome step of the day is called hybrid split, done by one of the student in M9 ballet school. Her name is Sarah but she's popularly called Hybrid because of her talent and in view of the kind of dancer the school is building her to become.
This split is not an ordinary one, not a usual for dancers, except the dancer is really ready to do the unusual.
To do this split, the dancer must be very flexible and must know how to do back-bend.
I encourage you to try it. If you can get it, many other steps can be created from this one. And it will only increase your step profile.

Ballet and flexibility
If flexibility holds such great importance in ballet dance, what then happens to those inflexible lovers of ballet?
Kids have better chances of becoming good ballet dancers because of their flexible nature. Not all kids, anyway. On the other hand, some adults all of a sudden develop the passion to learn ballet. For most, they loved it at childhood but lost the dream due to some prevailing circumstances. And now they want the dream back. Well, I pretty much fall into this category. The good news is, I overcame my inflexibility in some parts of my body and through determination, I find myself doing some other flexibility steps. My secret of gaining some measure of flexibility is what I want to share with you. If not you, someone around you may need the tip. So please take the knowledge with you.
Constantly involve yourself in running exercise for at least thirty minutes daily. This will free your hard bones and decrease your weight. Heavy weight and flexibility don't walk together. So through jogging, you can boost your flexibility profile. Not baby jogging. Real tiresome jogging that penetrates into your bone and marrow.
Secondly, engage yourself in series exercises that will specifically deal with your inflexible body parts. You can get a fitness coach to build you if you can't do it yourself. But ballet class offers a good help in improving flexibility, too. This exercises are really going to help you attain some level of flexibility but it will spread pains all over your body. So be ready to gain in pain.
Thirdly, watch your eating habit. Eat less and eat light foods more.
Finally, don't spend too much time loving sleep. Sleep is an enemy of flexibility if it's excessive.
Note:
Jogging early in the morning plus light evening jogging couple with exercises will help.

Boys in Ballet- the importance
Without the boy figure, many pas de duex steps and combinations cannot happen in a dance performance.
The boy adds great presence, energy and authority to any dance performance. For a second, imagine a performance without a boy ( male ). What do you see? Good, better, best or boring, manageable or incomplete.
Who will lift the girls if the boys are not there? Machines or robots? Oh don't think of it.
Aside that, ballet dance increases the muscular strength of the boys, helps their flexibility and improves body balance. Boys also enjoy the benefit of increase in cardiovascular health.
Academically, it improves their memory and attention to details.
Socially, it boost their self confidence, eliminate shyness and mastering difficult combination give them a sense of accomplishment. This put together go a long way in improving the standard of their daily social lives.
Ballet dance is very good for boys. That's the truth of the matter. If you have a boy child who is like all to himself ( shy ), please enroll him in a ballet training school. It will do him much good. And if he's the passionate type, very good.

Kids and Ballet
sight that is very interesting to watch and feel a sense of mission accomplished is watching kids dance ballet with a splendor of excellence.
At M9 ballet school, we have many training methods to bring out the best from kids. We turn them from kids to adults in dance understanding and character.
Quickly, Let me share one important tip for teaching kids to be outstanding dancers.
Long Hours Rehearsal ( LHR ). Most ballet schools usually spend the maximum of two hours teaching the kids. That's like a standard practice all over the places. And due to some " how to teach kids ballet " procedures, almost an hour is spent on other things. So the real rehearsal holds for just an hour plus. And sometimes rehearsal holds just Saturday mornings. Honestly, kids in that kin of structure cannot match kids who give up to three to four hours to rehearsal three times a week. That's one open secret why the kids in M9 ballet school are many steps ahead of their counterparts in Nigeria. Secondly, you need good dance instructors who have the ability to teach kids.
Thanks.

First Ballet Lesson
The first ballet lesson is the basic positions class. The basic positions involve the different five arm positions and feet positions. The basic positions can be defined as the first steps or beginning steps in ballet. Every new step you will learn makes use of the basic positions in one way or the other. All ballet dancers use these exact shapes to perform the most beautiful and expressive series of steps. Learning these basic positions correctly will give you a great advantage. Whatever you fail to master in this class is capable of destroying some part of your dance later. From the basic positions you will begin movements to other steps.

M9 Ballet School - Nigeria
M9 ballet school is a ballet contemporary training school, devoted to spreading the concept of ballet dance in Nigeria and taking it to a place of societal relevance and significance. This vision has been achieved to some degree. Located in a major oil producing state, where politics rule all corners, M9 Ballet School is a distinct light, giving many kids the opportunity to express themselves in something beyond the normal street dance. And this has given joy to both kids and parents. In many ways, M9 Ballet School has caused a different development in the oil state of Bayelsa.

African Ballet
Most African kids have great like for ballet dance. Unfortunately, the grandparents and parents of these kids at some points love ballet dance but had no opportunity to express this likeness on stage. Many reasons were responsible for this situation. The most handy one is that there is rarely an African who knows how to dance or teach ballet in the normal African communities.
This certainly did not help the growth of ballet in Africa.
But presently, that's not entirely the case, even though the light of this outstanding dance brand has not shone in most parts of the African soil. Still on that, many parts of Africa is enjoying the joy that comes with dancing ballet —be classical or contemporary.
According to Wikipedia, ballet is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russian. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology.
We rarely hear much about ballet dance in Africa but be sure of one thing, ballet is gradually reaching places in Africa. Many African countries have ballet rolling in their soils, in different forms - classical, contemporary. Here is a short list of ballet schools in Africa. We are not in any way affiliated with these schools. This is base on information and education purpose. So you can simply do your check on anyone and proceed as you wish.
1. Joburg Ballet
2. University of cape Town(UCT)
3. SPAN Academy
4. Mona Dance School
5. The Kampala Ballet and modern dance school
6. M9 ballet school
7. Kingdom ballet
The list goes on and on. Some African countries like south Africa, Nigeria and a few others have good numbers of ballet dance schools and this shows the love Africans have for the art. In say ten years from now, ballet will grow to become a common dance style in many parts of Africa.
I love the passion. I can see the growth coming. African ballet.

7 Laws of Dance
Dance involves movements of something, living or non living, to a beat or sound. Sometimes, certain living things and non living things dance as a result of an external pressure or force like wind and waves.
There are certain things that keeps the art of dance going for as long as time can remember. These are what I call the 7 laws of dance. No matter the time, the situation, the age or place, these laws don't change. Not even change can change these laws. Importantly, these laws make the art of dance a living wonder to behold. Below.
1. Dance Universe.
Dance is universal. Dance is everywhere in the world. Even trees, birds and animals have a way of expressing themselves in dance. And sometimes, the wind picks up objects to dance in the air and the mighty sea waves can inspire one to create amazing dance moves.
2. Dance in You.
Every human being started dancing right from the womb in form of little kicks and sensitive movements. Dance is inborn in everybody. Everyone can dance without learning. Dance lives in you.
3. Dance Health.
Dance, no matter its form, increase muscular strength, flexibility and body balance. It also improves cardiovascular health. It helps one's fitness profile and fights aging.
4. Dance and Music.
For dance to take place, there must be a sound or a song- audible or otherwise. Even if you decide not to sing with your mouth, your mind will automatically produce a sound. No dance without music.
5. Dance Impossible.
An angry person can never dance. Anger and dance are like darkness and light.
6. Dance Change.
From generation to generation, dance styles change. Some hundred years from now, the present dance styles must experience a great earthquake and some will fade away while some will experience a revolution or evolution.
7. Dance Author.
There is dance in heaven but no dance in Hellfire. God is the author of dance. Dance can only take place in an happy mood and not in an everlasting flames where there is gnashing of teeths and endless suffering.
These seven laws of dance may not be all that can be considered. If you have any say, please kindly comment.
Thanks

New ways in teaching kids ballet dance
7-10 years
Teaching kids ballet dance is a constant issue which in many cases is considered a difficulty due to the many challenges that align in teaching kids ballet dance.
The future of any dance genre belongs to the kids and failure to produce good ballet dance kids will definitely have a negative effect in the development of this outstanding dance brand. I have seen and read many write ups on how to teach kids ballet dance. Myself, I have tested these methods and confirmed their reliability. But I recently discovered some new ways in teaching kids ballet and that is what I want to share with you.
Knowledge is bigger than anyone. No one is bigger than knowledge. This knowledge will make anyone who applies it bigger. Let's begin.
1. Be extremely serious with them. It's good to take it simple and easy on them but that method is becoming outdated, producing less result and reducing the effectiveness that can be generated from teaching kids. From the first class or meeting, try and be very serious. Let them see it, feel it and persuade them to accept it. No unnecessary laughing or movements. With this, you can keep all attention on the dance class. If they can adapt, their development will be very quick and steady.
2. Steady their minds and attention on the dance class. This is the major thing dance teachers all over the world have found very difficult to achieve. Once this is achieved, every other thing that takes place during the class becomes easy. To achieve this, don't start going into dance lessons. First, look for ways to distract their minds and eyes from every distracting object. The object of distraction may be a friend, a doll, food or anything. Discourage discussions that do not help the class. Talk to them like young adults. Believe me, they will understand. And print it clear to them that absent mindedness will hinder the progress of their dance. Separate friends and mix them up properly. Tell them each person stands alone and should focus on himself or herself. Then, ask them to do simple dance moves repeatedly. This is to test their focus level. Those that have many distractions running through their minds will not pass this test. Identify them and start the process with more seriousness in forms of talks, examples and a little compulsion. Two things are likely to happen. First, they will play to your tone and steady their minds on what you are teaching. Second, you will identify the willing passionate ones from the ones who came just to make up the number. This will help you build good kids ballet dancers.
After doing these two things, you can start the dance lessons and be sure to get 90% commitment from the kids. Among other known methods of teaching kids, apply these two regularly and soon it will become a normal thing for them.
Thanks

Create your dance style Part 1
> You must have years of professional dance experience
> You should not ignore the basic principles of classical ballet
> Be ready to face criticism and accept it in a bid to improve your dance style
> It will take you a few years to create, document and justify your dance style.
From here, let me take you to how you can create your own contemporary ballet dance style.
1. Dance concept: Have a clear picture of how you want the dance style to look like. In the case of M9 Ballet, I wanted a combination of classical, acro, stunts / flips, popular dance moves in Nigeria and certain modern dance flavor. I needed something that can meet the taste of different cultural interest. So, picture your dance style and create.
2. Classical improvisation: Pick your most interesting classical ballet steps or techniques and add your own creative identity to it. There may be sharp similarity but let the difference be more
3. Language: Change certain French balletic terms to simple terms which people in your area can easily pronounce. This is very necessary because it will make your dance style easy to understand. If you see it fit, you can even tag some terms with your original language. However, you must explain to your students the reasons for the change of language.
4. Create your own: Majority of the content of your dance style should be created by you. Pick what you like from other dance styles and add it to the different steps / techniques you have created. In this way, the dance will have your identity.
5. Documentation: Write out all your steps / techniques and also write out the ones you borrowed and store or print out a dance book that explains your dance style.
6. Costumes: Go for your own style of costume. Costume defines the identity of your dance. So, work out something that really represents your dance style. M9 Ballet don't use tutus, gowns and pointe shoes because it's not compatible with its style.
7. Music: M9 Ballet prefergs Gospel rock songs because of the low-high nature of the dance style. Classical ballet and jazz and other dance styles usually have a music identity. So, follow suit.
8. Creative Rehearsal: This is where you spend days, weeks, months and years adding one step to another to create something that bears a slight different identity in a bid to make the dance world more fun and productive. You can do your dance creation alone or get some humble dancers to work with you.
All the best.
Many people would sell this idea for big money but I decided to give it free because I aim to impact the dance world unselfishly and see dance grow from different fronts.
