New ways in teaching kids ballet dance

7-10 years
Teaching kids ballet dance is a constant issue which in many cases is considered a difficulty due to the many challenges that align in teaching kids ballet dance.

The future of any dance genre belongs to the kids and failure to produce good ballet dance kids will definitely have a negative effect in the development of this outstanding dance brand. I have seen and read many write ups on how to teach kids ballet dance. Myself, I have tested these methods and confirmed their reliability. But I recently discovered some new ways in teaching kids ballet and that is what I want to share with you.
Knowledge is bigger than anyone. No one is bigger than knowledge. This knowledge will make anyone who applies it bigger. Let's begin.

1. Be extremely serious with them. It's good to take it simple and easy on them but that method is becoming outdated, producing less result and reducing the effectiveness that can be generated from teaching kids. From the first class or meeting, try and be very serious. Let them see it, feel it and persuade them to accept it. No unnecessary laughing or movements. With this, you can keep all attention on the dance class. If they can adapt, their development will be very quick and steady.

2. Steady their minds and attention on the dance class. This is the major thing dance teachers all over the world have found very difficult to achieve. Once this is achieved, every other thing that takes place during the class becomes easy. To achieve this, don't start going into dance lessons. First, look for ways to distract their minds and eyes from every distracting object. The object of distraction may be a friend, a doll, food or anything. Discourage discussions that do not help the class. Talk to them like young adults. Believe me, they will understand. And print it clear to them that absent mindedness will hinder the progress of their dance. Separate friends and mix them up properly. Tell them each person stands alone and should focus on himself or herself. Then, ask them to do simple dance moves repeatedly. This is to test their focus level. Those that have many distractions running through their minds will not pass this test. Identify them and start the process with more seriousness in forms of talks, examples and a little compulsion. Two things are likely to happen. First, they will play to your tone and steady their minds on what you are teaching. Second, you will identify the willing passionate ones from the ones who came just to make up the number. This will help you build good kids ballet dancers.

After doing these two things, you can start the dance lessons and be sure to get 90% commitment from the kids. Among other known methods of teaching kids, apply these two regularly and soon it will become a normal thing for them.

Thanks

Create your dance style Part 1

To be a creator of your own contemporary dance style, below are some facts that you must consider vital.

> You must have years of professional dance experience

> You should not ignore the basic principles of classical ballet

> Be ready to face criticism and accept it in a bid to improve your dance style

> It will take you a few years to create, document and justify your dance style.

From here, let me take you to how you can create your own contemporary ballet dance style.

1. Dance concept: Have a clear picture of how you want the dance style to look like. In the case of M9 Ballet, I wanted a combination of classical, acro, stunts / flips, popular dance moves in Nigeria and certain modern dance flavor. I needed something that can meet the taste of different cultural interest. So, picture your dance style and create.

2. Classical improvisation: Pick your most interesting classical ballet steps or techniques and add your own creative identity to it. There may be sharp similarity but let the difference be more

3. Language: Change certain French balletic terms to simple terms which people in your area can easily pronounce. This is very necessary because it will make your dance style easy to understand. If you see it fit, you can even tag some terms with your original language. However, you must explain to your students the reasons for the change of language.

4. Create your own: Majority of the content of your dance style should be created by you. Pick what you like from other dance styles and add it to the different steps / techniques you have created. In this way, the dance will have your identity.

5. Documentation: Write out all your steps / techniques and also write out the ones you borrowed and store or print out a dance book that explains your dance style.

6. Costumes: Go for your own style of costume. Costume defines the identity of your dance. So, work out something that really represents your dance style. M9 Ballet don't use tutus, gowns and pointe shoes because it's not compatible with its style.

7. Music: M9 Ballet prefergs Gospel rock songs because of the low-high nature of the dance style. Classical ballet and jazz and other dance styles usually have a music identity. So, follow suit.

8. Creative Rehearsal: This is where you spend days, weeks, months and years adding one step to another to create something that bears a slight different identity in a bid to make the dance world more fun and productive. You can do your dance creation alone or get some humble dancers to work with you.

 All the best.

Many people would sell this idea for big money but I decided to give it free because I aim to impact the dance world unselfishly and see dance grow from different fronts.

Create your dance style

I am a great fan of creativity

I believe in flexibility

I live in the future

I am from the future

I love the glory of the past

But it's time to live beyond the past.

Daily, the dance world is rocked with new creativity and once in a long while, we experience a dance evolution—one dance style attaining perfection as a result of great creative technicability, hence forming a new and better dance style. Every present dance style at some point went through this dance evolution process.

Some great dance thinkers are usually responsible for each dance evolution. Moving from classical to neoclassical by Ba
lanchine is a good example. From there, many great dance thinkers have extended their scope and today there are different styles of contemporary ballet. Acro dance has experienced this swift evolution move by forming acro ballet.

There is a dance style called M9 Ballet in Nigeria. It has many fans due to it's uniqueness, high energy like hip-hop and its utility ability in dancing different songs— ranging from classical to hip-hop, cultural and so on. And it's selling very well. That's the official dance taught in M9 Dance Academy until it recently underwent some serious innovation to arrive at something better.

If you can create your own dance style, the benefits are much.

Nigeria Ballet Revolution

Ballet dance in Nigeria is of high interest to most kids in urban settlements. They often watch some ballet dance movements in cartoon firms and that's where the affection for ballet dance starts from. They carry this affection in their tender hearts for long, craving to dance ballet.

Unfortunately, this affection usually hit a huge rock and gets shattered. The reason for this is because there are but very few ballet dance training schools in Nigeria. In total, the number of ballet dance schools are not more than twenty ( reliable ).

Meanwhile the number of kids ready to dance ballet ranks in thousands. This is a great mismatch. Because of the religious reasons, the art of dancing ballet cannot really strive in the northern states. Even though Lagos State is not in the top ten biggest states in the country, it's a home to most of the ballet dance schools. Yea, Lagos State is the center of entertainment in Nigeria. Then we have the rest schools scantly scattered across Benin, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Bayelsa and a few more.

Revolution usually comes as a result of a strong change initiated by futuristic people and accepted by some or most. Day by day, the existing ballet dance schools are extending their scope. Like in M9 Ballet School, and as it is in some other schools, the population of students are more than the available space. That's to say there's high interest in ballet dance. It's a good sign for the future. Some years ago, it wasn't so. So, I can say it's a good sign for a ballet dance revolution in Nigeria. Believe it or not, the revolution has already started. But let's look at the four major factors affecting the growth of ballet in Nigeria.

Factors Affecting Ballet Dance Growth In Nigeria.

1. Facilities: — Most of the schools lack the facilities necessary for ballet dance training like adequate rehearsal studio, props, books, shoes and  costumes.

2. Trainers: — It's hard to find a qualified or a very creative ballet dance coach. Some don't even know ballet dance terminologies.

3. Support: —  These dance schools struggle on their own almost all the time. But some with big connections usually don't complain about this. But it's there, hitting majority of the schools.

4. No ballet dance organization:— The absence of a nation wide ballet dance organization is a big problem for the development of ballet dance in the country. All the ballet dance schools are sailing alone. No unity. No joint vision. Big problem.

If this four issues can be looked into and a positive solution implemented, Nigeria will soon be recognized as the center of ballet dance in Africa.

For all lovers of ballet dance, it's important you see beyond this dry phase and act towards the revolution that will make Nigeria glow in the dance world.

Dance Lift—Sky Lift

Lifts are usually very wonderful sight to behold in dance, generally. A dance lift is a sequence of acrobatic movements in which one dancer ( typically the male ) lifts and holds his dance partner above the floor.— asserts Wikipedia.

In all cases, the dance partner is briefly sustained in the air. For a dance lift to be well executed, both dancers must completely trust each other. Without complete trust, it will be extremely difficult to perform a dance lift accurately.

Also, it takes years of dance experience to be able to perform some outstanding dance lifts. Basically, no matter how light it may appear, all dance lifts are dangerous and can result in injury if the dance partners loss physical connection and communication. Therefore, it's good the dance partners work as one in thinking and in movements.

The male dancer needs to be strong ( good feet balance, balanced body frame and good arms power ) and confident to carry and catch his partner.

Dance lifts make dancing look extra brilliant and it's all for the benefit of the dance world to wow and inspire audiences.
