M9 PROFILE

In a time when there were no dance companies, no professional dancers, when there were no dance concerts, when dancers had no vision, no dance icons, when dancers beg to perform, when they dance without any financial or promotional benefits, a time when dancers were without reputation and respect, came M9 into the scene. Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

Here was one young dancer with a vision to cause a dance revolution in his zone. After deciding to go into professional dancing in  27th September, 2009, he started the revolution process by forming a body that would unite all the dance crews and implementat measures that will ensure the growth of dance in the state. He brought many dance crews leaders together and they named it ALL GOSPEL DANCE ARTISTES DYNASTY ( AGDAD ). Unfortunately, AGDAD didn't live long but many positive lessons were learnt from the AGDAD experience.

M9 moved on and founded M9 Ballet School in December 7th, 2010. Through this medium, he has raised many intelligent dancers. Afterwards, he extended M9 Ballet School dance training programs to many academic institutions and churches. In three years, over three thousand dancers added to the emerging dance community through M9 Ballet School.

M9 Spotlight ( M9 Ballet School dance team ) played their role excellently and made dance a top priority in different relevant events in the state. Their quality dance performance could not be disputed or ignored. So they painted different top events with their dance master peice and impacted lives. By this time, it became obvious that a new dance history is emerging. No more begging to feature in events. Many things changed for better. Year after year, M9 organized dance concerts and sold many dance CDs.

Following the progressive steps of M9 in the direction of a dance revolution—a cause which many people tagged him with, many dancers and upcoming dance crews were charged to start up something in their capacity. As expected, the dance community in the state grew. Although there is no support from the government for now, dancers are earning and growing into the society. This is only the beginning of the revolution M9 envisioned.

Who is M9?

Mattin Clif Eva Aghara (popularly known as M9 ) is a Gospel dance activist, professional dancer and dance entrepreneur who is out to take dance to a place of societal relevance and significance in his zone.

His dance career started at the age of twenty three. Through hard work, discipline and determination, his dance skills and knowledge has wowed many who have been in the feild long before him. He has taken great risks and succeeded where no one dared to. At a time, he resigned from his job in order to dance— a decision which raised many angry questions. But he proved himself correct with the mass impact he is making after few years. His second dance was the performance that brought him to the local spotlight in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He danced You Are All I Want ( soloist ) by Donie Mcklukin, in a program hosted by the RCCG Provincial Youth, Bayelsa Province — dated 14th October, 2009, @ Ididie Hotel Conference Hall.

He had his early dance experience with Kingdom Steppers. But when he went soloing and became M9, he created a dance style ( M9 Ballet ) that was completely different from the Kingdom Steppers dance ideology. This made him exceptional and unique.

Born in September 27th, 1986, to the family of Clifford Aghara ( late ), from Isoko south, Igbide Town, Delta State. He's the sixth in a line of eight children. He did his schooling in Bayelsa  and Delta State, respectively.

He met his wife when he was hired to teach dance in a secondary school. He said nothing and kept the feelings to grow or fade. After few years, they met again and became products of destiny. Her name is Silver Eva ( Sil9 ). Together they run the M9 Ballet School and M9 Spotlight.

All the glory belongs to God.

The Life of a Professional Dancer

The art of dancing is very exciting. Dance is naturally a product of happiness. With dance comes many fun moments. One has ultimate freedom to express himself /herself and really live beyond the numerous distractions around.  But there is a deep story behind the life of a professional dancer. The truth be told, dancing as a profession is very fun but very challenging. What gets the professional dancer going during hard times is the joy and fulfillment he/she finds in dancing. The life of a professional dancer include some of the details below.

To dance professionally and remain indispensable, you really have to work very hard in rehearsals and dance projects.

Money don't come so fast in spite of your hard work. As a beginer, you may have to dance for free many times. But if you are good and focused and patient, you may reap the reward of your hard work.

Getting connected with established dance companies and personalities can help a lot. No matter your talent, you need someone ahead of you to take you ahead. It's not important who you know. What's important is who know you. And for important people to know you, you need your dance talent to be marketable plus great humility.

Competition is highly part of it. Like sports, dancing is an art with many great talents. You really have to put in your best to constantly be on the stage. Sometimes you may not even be noticed base on the particular dance style that's needed by the employer. And this may really be disappointing. But the competitiveness shouldn't cause you any hard feeling, envy or stress. The thing is, do your best and relax. If your best is not enough, then work harder and wait for better times.

Provided you are good, popularity will hit you. Each time you climb the stage, fans will cheer. This gives the dancer much joy. And it's this feeling that make many dancers enjoy dancing because joy is kind of scarce these days - especially with all the troubles around. However, don't let the fame get into your head and lead to pride. Still see yourself as normal. It's hard for your behavior not to change but it shouldn't tell others they're not as important as you.

Injury is likely to come. And if it happens to you, you have to fight hard to climb the stage again. Some injury can be minor while some severe. Whatever the case, defeat it.

Most times, most dancers usually face parental disapproval when going into professional dancing. This is very common in some parts of the world like Africa, Asia and many third world nations. These parents don't see any good coming out of dancing. This is largely influenced by the hash economic atmosphere in these regions. They go all out to stop you. They don't care if it makes you sad. However, they are somehow correct because professional dancing is not being encouraged in these regions. But a revolution has started in Nigeria. Some dance companies have come up and many dancers are earning something, even though it's not big - for now. And there are some good talent shows like Nigeria Got Talent, Maltina Family Dance and some others. But one outstanding development is, for the first time, two young professional dancers got married. It sent a big message to all who heard about it. People now know professional dancing has come to stay. Seeing this, many disapproving parents have started giving up the fight because these young dancers can now point to someone who is making a huge difference with dancing. For this reason, M9 Ballet School is highly respected. My word to all those facing parental disapproval is this: - ' If dancing really gives you joy, then dance '.

It's a big mistake for you to expect everyone to like the way you dance. Everyone is entitle to his / her opinion. But don't let people's negative opinion about you define who you are. Shake it off and believe in your dance style and appreciate those who believe in you.

At this point, let me hit the nail on the head. There is no best dancer. Not you, not anyone. Someone somewhere is better than you and you are better than many other dancers. The best is just an: " illusional tag ". It doesn't really exist. Don't compare yourself with anyone. God created everyone differently. Aim to be the best of yourself. It will give you more joy and fulfilment.

7 Tips to Teaching Kids Ballet Dance

Most good dancers usually started dancing at a very tender age — 3 to 7 years. It's a miracle how they were able to learn and scale through those complicated dance classes.     But the greater miracle lies
in the wisdom and teaching method of the dance teacher. Not every good dancer can successful teach kids. Teaching kids how to dance requires many qualities, some of which include patience, humility, friendship and good observation skill. Below are some successful tips to teaching kids how to dance and enjoy dancing ballet.

1. Know when it's time up.

Try not to spend too much time on a particular step or teaching session, except you observe that the kids are enjoying it. Upon that, kids easily get tired and bored when a particular thing is repeated for more than ten minutes. So, observe and know when it's time up.

2. Teach and Play

As you teach, play with the kids and get them excited. In playing, kids learn a great deal than when you are extremely serious with them. Correct them with a playful tone. The more you teach-play, the more they get comfortable and would be the ones to remind their parents of the next dance class.

3. Praise

Always praise them for getting anything correctly. Praise set them in motion to perform better. Even if they fail to get something correctly, simply tap them on the back and say well done - at least for the effort. Then, give them more chances to try again.

4. Mobility

Don't keep the class in one place  more than ten minutes. Get them moving from one axis of the hall to another. Sometimes, walk with them outside and come back. In doing this, you engage them with good distraction and take sleep away from their eyes. They become lively.

 5. Visual

Have good dance pictures pasted around the class. Or you can show them pictures from dance books. Most times, it's better seen than said. Also, have a TV set. Let them often watch the primary dance movements and flow along.

 6. Sing the steps

Try forming a simple song with the names of the steps and chorus it with them as they practice. This helps their tender memory not to easily forget the steps.

7. Friendship

If they can see you as a friend, then they can easily give you their best.

Every child that has interest for dance can become a good dancer someday but it mostly depends on how he/she was taught in early dance training classes.

Flexibility

Flexibility plays a good part in becoming a good dancer. However, some dancers are not naturally flexible. But no cause for alarm because a great degree of flexibility can be achieved through constant exercises. At M9 Ballet School, we are dynamic in our approach of training students to be wow dancers, irrespective of flexibility level, ability or disability, age or experience. For us, the development of each individual student is a project of great concern. We don't discourage or condemn. We delight in making sure our students improve in dance, no matter the challenge, through different training methods. We have discovered that all students can't follow the same pattern to achieve certain dance techniques. So we create new suitable patterns of training in some cases.

Dance Talent Plus Photos

For dance to be truly dance, it has to be creatively expressed. Creativity however is nothing without productive imagination. Ask the best dance authors in the world the secret of their success. Productive Imagination of the dance piece comes first. To be creative, first be imaginative.

Dance is not the movement of your body to music. Dance is the movement of your emotions. The point where your  emotions and the music becomes one (united), that is DANCE.

@M9 Ballet School, we are causing a dance revolution in our zone. Not just for dance to be enthroned, but to build dancers with strong character, leadership principles and vision. By doing this, we raise useful people for families and society — which in turn change the society for the best. For us, dance is more than steps. Dance is a good tool to add meaning to people's lives, especially young people. The future is safe because it belongs to young people.

M9 Stage Axis

  STAGE UTILIZATION.

A Stage is a platform on which an audience watches an artistic performance of any kind — be it dance, drama, music and what have you. Without a Stage, a performance can't be showcased no mater how beautiful it may look.

Without a Stage I wonder what would become of dance and other artistic fields. Many times, many dancers misuse the Stage. There are quite different types of Stage, usually influenced by the scope of the performance. Regardless of this, every Stage is  bound to have nine axis. A  good understanding and good usage of these nine axis can greatly contribute to showcasing a good dance performance. What most dancers are familiar with and base their works on is the center Stage and partially up Stage. In this case, the other seven axis are abandoned.

It would be better if dance can float through all nine axis of the Stage in a single performance. This is a bit technical and requires good dance concept to be achieved. But if achieved, it will give the audience a unique spectacle.

To a large degree, it is a universal habit to start a dance from center Stage. Yes, it is very good because it provides the audience with a clear view
from the beginning. But it will be a bit more unique if the audience start seeing something different. Not always, however sometimes, try starting your dance from another preferred axis of the stage. It will give you a new sense of creativity. And it is important for all dancers to know all the different axis of the Stage, practice with it and master using the axis well. This will make the art of dancing more professional and unpredictable.

No mater how small or big the rehearsal space or dance floor
may be, the basic nine axis of a Stage can be mapped out. If dance schools and choreographers will choose to use this Stage utilization tip effectively, audiences will certainly be in for something better.  Most of all, let all dancers enjoy using the Stage to its fullest.

At M9 Ballet School, we always remember that our students will sometimes perform outside our sight. So we teach them many extra dance truths, from basic dance steps to infinity.

HISTORY. M9 Dance Academy

HISTORY: M9 Dance Academy

In December 7th, 2010, Mattin Clif Eva ( popularly known as M9 ) founded M9 Dance Academy. He was an untalented dancer, boldly written off by most people and termed to fail, especially in an undeveloped dance zone like Nigeria. But he believed otherwise and acted in the direction of his conviction.

He constantly rehearsed to improve his dance skills, God helped him and eventually attained recognition and became significant in his zone. Like most African kids, the passion for ballet was strong but his present environment lacked the basic facilities and materials that can facilitate his development. In this precedented urgly reality, he didn't give up. Instead he changed the reality by creating a dance style that follows some principles of classical ballet and added some vital elements of gymnastics, acrobatic, stunts and modern dance techniques; a dance that is comfortable to his zone, yet maintaining a global standard.

After one year of personal rehearsals, research and experiments, he created a dance style called M9 ballet. From one performance to another, people loved how he danced. And as his fans grew bigger per performance, the need to train people to dance to dance like him and uphold his dance philosophy became a dream. Upon this dream he founded M9 Dance Academy.

The school started with one student in a church space. As time passed by, the number of students increased and by the tail of 2013, the school trained over three thousand dancers across churches, schools, individually and publicly . These dancers have gone on to positively affect their society with dance- some of which are professional dancers in M9 Spotlight ( M9 Dance Company dance TEAM ).

Before then, people don't take any form of dance seriously in Bayelsa State. But through the impact of M9 Dance Academy, the State started experiencing a rapid dance revolution. People now value dance and could easily enroll in our dance training programs.

ADMISSION- M9 Dance Academy

ADMISSION!!!

Unlike most dance schools, admission into M9 Dance Academy is not completely based on talent and potential. Hence, we don't follow the line of audition. We believe in talent and potential but we think a bit differently when it comes to becoming a successful dancer. Here, even dancers who lack the raw talent and potential can go on to become outstanding dancers.
We have taken time to observe that there are two categories of dancers. The talented dancer and the skilled dancer. The talented dancer is someone who can easily do some basic dance steps without any difficulty while the skilled dancer often appear as a total stranger in this basic practical. Nonetheless, with the right motivation from the dance coach,  passion  from the skilled dancer, the skilled dancer will hardly be distinguishable from the talented dancer in the long run. Only an extraordinary expert can spot their difference.

At M9 Dance Academy, we can tell if a student is a talented or skilled dancer and use this important knowledge to train the student to the best of his/her abilities.

Anyone and everyone can learn and be an outstanding dancer. Therefore, don't write off yourself. You can join the history of good dancers. We know how to bring the best from anyone, no matter your disability. In fact, we try to make your disability your ability.

Admission is always in progress.
